Key West (KEYW) to Tikal Guatemala (MGMM) is 648 nm or 4 hours at 165 kts (no wind), flying along the Cuban coast and then directly over Cozumel Mexico to Tikal. Cozumel Mexico or Belize are enroute fuel stops if needed. (792 nm Key West to MGGT Guatemala City).
Feb 18 Wednesday night briefingf for those interested at the Best Western Plus at KTMB Miami Executive. Thursday, I plan on topping off at Key West for Guatemala City. For the shorter leg aircraft, clear customs at MGMM FLores and then 144 nm to Guatemala and taxi straight to the Aero Club. For those flying non-stop to MGGT, the Aero Club handler will be waiting for you to assist with customs/immigration.
The Guatemalan Aero Club has invited us to use their facility as we wait
for everyone to arrive. From there we bus 60 minutes to Antigua, the old
Spanish Capital of Central American established in 1543. Two and a half days in Antigua soaking up history and visiting the Finca
Filadelphia coffee plantation and zip line.
Our hotel is the delightful Camino Real Antigua.
On Sunday, 144 nm back to Flores (Tikal) Guatemala (MGMM) for two nights at the Camino Real Tikal Hotel. Monday, we spend the day at the Tikal Mayan ruins.
Registration fee per aircraft is $595. All group rate savings for the hotels and tours will be passed directly to the Fly In participants. Fees at both airports are surprisingly affordable.
Your total costs for registration, hotels with internet and breakfast, airport transfers, tours and Mexican/Belize/Guatemala airport fees including departure taxes will be less than $2,300 for two people in one aircraft or even less if you do not need fuel stops in Mexico or Belize. Lunch and Dinners on your own tab - also very reasonable. This is an incredibly affordable international Flying Adventure.
Join us if you can. This will be an excellent mid-winter break in a new destination loaded with history, culture, volcanoes, nature and fascinating flying. You will experience flying through Cuban, Mexican, Belize and Guatemalan airspace. I will provide comprehensive checklists and cockpit aids for the trip. I have done this six times in my C172RG and a four times in an SR22. It is scenic, exciting and downright good fun.
Cancellation Policy: Registration forfeited if cancelled after January 19, 2026; if cancelled slot is backfilled, penalty is only $200.
